.Art and Art History (General): Finding BOOKS

This is the main portal to databases and other library sources for art and art history research at Van Wylen Library, Hope College.

Other Catalogs

MeLCat - Materials in participating Michigan libraries.  Books here may be ordered and are sent to Van Wylen Library.

WorldCat - Materials in U.S. and international libraries.  These can be requested through InterLibrary Loan.

Herrick Library - The Holland public library is strong in more popular and local materials, so you may find resources there that we don't collect at Hope.

HopeCAT - Search the Library Catalog

Example Keyword Search:

  • When researching a specific work of art, think broad!  Don't search on the specific name of your art piece, but instead by artist, school, or location.
  • Notice where your “keywords” appear in the record (they will be in RED)
  • Take note of the SUBJECTS listed near the bottom of the record. Clicking on the subject links will take you to another page of related subjects and thus, similar items in the library
