This is the main portal to databases and other library sources for art and art history research at Van Wylen Library, Hope College.

E-Reference

Though a major work, the print edition of the Grove Dictionary of Art is a bit older.  The library has purchased all a number of updated electronic encyclopedias on topical areas that include the Grove content, sometimes updated and expanded.  To best search these titles, consider searching them all together through the Oxford Reference Art Search.  (note, by default this includes content we don't own, so narrow to the "unlocked" content in the left menu).  Or search and browse them by individual title below. You can also browse art ereference titles in Credo Reference.

Print Reference

We have many other excellent print dictionaries, encyclopedias and indexes on art topics, in the print reference section, online, and even in the regular stacks.  Consider making an appointment with Jessica Hronchek (hronchek@hope.edu), the art librarian, to learn more about what we have on your topic!
