ENGL 113 - Owens Harlem Renaissance: Articles

Article Searching - Thinking Broad

The library has a broad research tool called Primo that allows you to search a wide range of library resources, including magazine, newspaper and journal articles.

Tips:

  • Again, keep searches simple, 2-3 words instead of long questions or phrases
  • Use the left-hand limiters to narrow down further to the kinds of things you are looking for
    • Do you want certain kinds of articles?  You can focus just on journal articles, or newspapers
    • The date limiter will control when the articles were published
  • Most of this content will be electronic, but occasionally you might locate an interesting print source.  Just ask at the research help desk if you have trouble locating it.

Article Searching - Thinking Specific

One thing that academic libraries offer is a range of specialty tools that give you a focused view of resources in a particular discipline or of a particular type.  This saves you the time of wading through much broader systems like MightyFind or Google, and gives you more confidence that you are searching more exhaustively in a field of study.  Here are tools that might be helpful for Harlem Renaissance research.
