Types of Reference Books

There are a lot of different kind of reference books out there that can help you find different kinds of information. You can find a number of relevant sources in the E184-185s and the JV6400s of the reference section. Below are a few of the examples we discussed in class, some of which are electronic sources:

Shapers of the great debate on immigration : a biographical dictionary by Brown, Mary Elizabeth
Call Number: JV6483 .B77 1999
This is an example of a biographical reference source. These are helpful for researching basic information about people.
Chronology of African American history : from 1492 to the present by Hornsby, Alton, Jr.
Call Number: E185 .H64 1997
This is an example of a chronology, where the information is organized by date.
