Open Access: Open Access Fund

A Guide to Open Access. What is it? Why is it important?

Applying for Funds

One way Van Wylen Library backs up its commitment to furthering open access to scholarly communication is by maintaining a small fund to offset the costs of author/article processing charges. Hope faculty may apply for funding (limit: $1500 per article/manuscript) by submitting a request for funding BEFORE you submit your work to a publisher.

If we provide funding, we require that you submit your author's accepted manuscript to FAR upon publication for inclusion in our institutional repository, Hope College Digital Commons. Your author's accepted manuscript will not be publicly available until after publication and in accordance with any publisher restrictions or policies. Once you are invoiced, please pay with your Hope credit card; we will provide you with an account number to use with Certify.

n.b. This fund may only be used to offset author fees for article publication in an open access journal/monograph. We will not support paying fees to publish OA in a subscription journal (AKA hybrid journal).

Please contact Jenifer Holman, Electronic Resources librarian, with any questions about this process.
