Van Wylen Library values open access publishing. To that end, we have entered into several different agreements. Some are discounts for author publishing costs, while our read & publish agreements include not only full access to read a publisher's content, but cover our authors' publication costs as well. Another model, subscribe to open (S2O) promises that if enough current subscribers pledge to subscribe, the content published in that year will be open access, with no costs to authors.
If you are the corresponding author, you may publish in ACS hybrid open access journals with no APCs under this agreement. Please follow these steps during the submission process:
Our Subscription to the AJP Consolidated package entitles our Hope College corresponding authors to automatically have their work published under a Creative Commons license and made open access at the time of publication in any of the 7 journals.
Because APS has reached their funding goal, for 2025:
Our subscription to Journal of bacteriology : JB entitles corresponding authors at Hope College to enjoy uncapped publishing in that journal. Plus, regardless of our subscription status, authors can publish in any of the six S2O journals without incurring article processing charges (APCs). Standard page charges and supplemental material fees will still apply, and significant discounts are available to authors. More information is available from ASM.
For 2025:
Starting in 2025, Hope College has entered into a read & publish agreement with Cambridge University Press. This agreement enables you to read journal content from 1997-current from 447 journals and publish open access journal articles without charge.
Article publication charges (APCs) for primary research and review articles published by corresponding authors affiliated with Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) will be covered as part of MCLS’s agreement with Wiley*. To qualify, articles must be published in a fully open access journal and must have been accepted on or after 1 September 2021.
*subject to availability of sufficient funds.
