Scopus v Web of Science

Scopus Trial Access

Exploring Scopus

Hope college is conducting a trial of Scopus from 4/7/2025-6/7/2025.

Why consider Scopus instead of Web of Science?

  • Scopus (by Elsevier) and Web of Science (by Clarivate) are two premier citation databases to access and track scholarly literature, citation metrics, and research impact.
  • Many libraries have transitioned to Scopus as a less expensive product that offers much of the same content and features as Web of Science. Scopus is roughly half the cost of Web of Science
  • Budget constraints require that the library regularly evaluate and potentially cancel products to steward campus dollars. A flat budget is the equivalent of a cut because of price increases.
  • Considering possible strategic cancellations is part of responding to evolving campus needs. The library wants its collections to match campus priorities now and in the future.
  • Compare Scopus and Web of Science features.
