Pro Tips For Success

  Be on time!

Your teammates rely on you to be on time for your shifts. Come prepared to start working at the start of your shift. If you need to come late or leave early for any reason, you need to get Allison's permission in advance. If something unexpected is going to make you late, text the supervisor on duty right away.

                               Practice excellent customer service

For expectations, see Customer Service & Desk Etiquette.

  Communicate

  • Is something broken? Out of ink? Missing? Let a supervisor know right away.
  • If you don't know or can't remember how to do something, ask someone who knows.
  • Respond to emails and other team communication promptly. Don't make your supervisor have to ask a second time to get a response from you.
  • Did something happen that the whole team should know about? Post it to the Newsfeed in Sling.
  • Let a supervisor know about any unusual, suspicious, or urgent situations. Email if it's not urgent. Text or call if it's urgent.
  • For more, see Communication.

  Sub for each other

Subbing is essential for our team to function well, and it's important to help each other out. If you sub for someone, they are more likely to sub for you when you need it. Your teammates will notice if you never offer to sub, and this makes them less inclined to sub for you, especially if you ask for subs frequently. See Sling, Shifts, & Subbing for more info.

                             Submit your timesheet on time

Get paid! Enter your hours correctly and submit your timesheet by midnight on the last Friday of each pay period. Set a calendar reminder for yourself so that you don't forget. For more, see Timesheets.

                             Practice confidentiality

Confidentiality is a core responsibility of librarianship, and it's our duty to keep every aspect of patron records confidential, from contact information to the items a patron has checked out. For more, see Confidentiality.
