Dress Code

  Dress appropriately for work.

You are representing the library when you're at work. We appreciate your personal style and understand that you may be scheduled to work between classes, but please use good judgment and follow these dress code expectations.

  • Close-toed shoes are recommended.
  • No pajamas, loungewear, or beachwear.
  • No excessively ripped or revealing clothing.
  • No hoods over your head or brimmed hats like baseball caps, bucket hats, or sun hats, because they obscure your face and field of vision. Beanies and other hats without brims are okay.

If you have any questions about what is considered appropriate, ask your supervisor.

Please consider these questions when picking your shift attire:

  • Am I able to do my job well in this attire?
  • Does my attire inhibit patrons from using library services effectively?
  • Do I feel safe in my attire?
  • Does my attire run the risk of making anyone around me feel unsafe?

If your cultural or religious identity compels you to dress according to your values and principles, the Van Wylen library will advocate on your behalf that your employment, livelihood, or experience at work will not be affected.
