If an item is not returned by its due date, overdue fines start to build up. For regular books, there are no overdue fines for the first 30 days unless another patron has a hold on the item. We have stricter fines for valuable and high-use items like technology, since it's essential that they be returned on time.
| Type of Material | Fine Rate | Maximum Fine |
|---|---|---|
| Reference Books | $5 per day | $50 |
| Videos / DVDs | $1 per day | $10 |
| CDs | $1 per day | $10 |
| 4-day Equipment Loans | $5 per day | $50 |
| 24-hour Equipment Loans | $0.50 per hour | $36 |
If an item still has not been returned 30 days after its due date, the patron is charged a replacement fee and the item status in Alma changes to "Lost."
| Type of Material | Minimum Replacement Fee |
|---|---|
| Books | $65 |
| Videos / DVDs | $65 |
| CDs | $25 |
| Cameras | $515 |
| PC Laptops | $1015 |

If a patron promptly returns the charged item in good condition, the replacement cost is waived and a processing fee remains. So for a $65 book replacement, $60 would be waived and $5 would remain.
