Disciplinary Action & Dismissal

  Disciplinary Action & Dismissal

If a Circulation Assistant is not meeting expectations, disciplinary action will be evaluated based on the frequency and severity of issues.

Behaviors that will result in disciplinary action include:

  • Failure to meet job expectations.
  • Lateness, absenteeism, missing shifts without finding a sub or notifying your supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Inability to perform job responsibilities; failure to remember training, perform assigned tasks, or follow directions.
  • Poor customer service, inattentiveness, unprofessional behavior.
  • Taking actions or making exceptions that go against our policies.
  • Not completing or submitting timesheets on time; entering timesheets inaccurately.
  • Not reading or responding to team communication, not staying up-to-date with job responsibilities.
  • Misuse of circulation computers or circulation workspace.

These behaviors prevent us from offering excellent service and hurt team morale. If a Circulation Assistant engages in any of the above behaviors, a 3-step disciplinary process will begin.

  • Step 1) Your supervisor will speak with you about the problem.
  • Step 2) If the problem continues, you will receive a written warning from your supervisor, and documentation of the problem will go in your file.
  • Step 3) Dismissal. Depending on the frequency and severity of the issues, dismissal may involve not being rehired the following semester or being fired immediately.

Behaviors that will result in immediate dismissal include:

  • Breach of patron or personnel confidentiality.
  • Abuse of library or circulation privileges.
  • Engaging in harassment or discriminatory behavior.
  • Circumventing security procedures or helping others to do so.
  • Accessing the library when it is closed.
